Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities found he posed a concrete flight risk while under domestic detention.

The ex-president was convicted of orchestrating a armed takeover in last fall and given more than over two decades in jail, but he was staying under home detention pending court reviews.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Justice Moraes said the move to detain the septuagenarian politician was a safety action after "new facts" were revealed.

This encompassed trying to remove his ankle monitor and a call for a public vigil that could "allow for a potential flight.

Context of Sentencing

The former president was determined responsible of orchestrating a scheme aimed at maintaining his control after he failed to win the 2022 election to his political opponent, President Lula.
